The shaded boundary is an approximate travel territory. ZIP codes and neighborhood lines do not match perfectly, so use the ZIP result and written coverage guidance together. * If you are located near the boundary, please call or text to discuss whether your address is within the service area.

Outside the service area

Downtown Los Angeles is not part of regular coverage. ZIP codes that cross the boundary receive a yellow result so the exact address can be reviewed. A red result means the ZIP is outside the published service area.

A green result means the ZIP is within regular coverage. Yellow means the address needs confirmation. Red means the ZIP is outside the service area. Coverage does not guarantee an appointment, and ZIP codes do not always follow neighborhood boundaries.

In-home euthanasia

Say goodbye in the home they know and love.

When the time comes, I provide euthanasia for dogs and cats at home, where they can remain in familiar surroundings with family by their side.

This service is available to new and established clients within the service area, subject to scheduling and availability.

Communication hours: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Pacific. You may call or text at any time. Messages sent outside these hours are not monitored and will be returned during the next communication period. Messages are never monitored for emergencies.

Individual aftercare: You may choose individual cremation or aquamation. Your pet is cared for separately, never as part of a communal service. Their remains are returned in an urn and hand-delivered to your home.

About Dr. Liz Friedman

Personal care, grounded in experience.

I’m Dr. Elizabeth Friedman. I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota in 1992 and have provided housecall care since 2000. My experience includes multi-doctor practices, emergency medicine, shelter medicine, and care in clients’ homes.

I began working in a veterinary practice at 14. What I especially value about housecalls is the opportunity to see pets in their own environment and get to know both the animals and the people who care for them.

My approach is science-based, straightforward, and compassionate. I value the trust clients place in me and believe clear communication is an important part of caring for their pets.

Frequently asked questions

Before you call or text.

Are you accepting new clients?

New clients are currently accepted for in-home euthanasia only, within the service area and subject to availability. General veterinary care is temporarily limited to established clients. Wellness and ongoing-care appointments will reopen to new clients as availability allows, so please check back for updates.

How do I arrange a visit?

Call or text 323-314-8536 at any time. Please include your name, neighborhood or ZIP code, whether you are a new or established client, and the reason for the visit.

* Messages are monitored and returned during communication hours, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Pacific. Messages sent outside these hours are not monitored and will be returned during the next communication period. If you have an urgent need, please call your emergency veterinarian.

What does whole-pet, science-based care mean?

I consider the whole pet, including health history, environment, comfort, and family context, while using science-based veterinary medicine. I do not offer homeopathic or naturopathic treatment.

Can we discuss quality of life by phone or text?

If you are unsure whether it is time, your pet’s regular veterinarian may be best placed to discuss changes in their condition. A quality-of-life assessment may require an appointment. A scheduled teleconsultation is available and may help, although it may not be as useful as an in-person assessment. I cannot make that determination through an introductory phone call or text exchange.

My pet is nearing the end of life. Can I wait and call when I think it’s time?

No. I am rarely available on short notice and am typically booked at least 48 hours in advance. Please schedule at least a few days ahead. I do not charge a cancellation fee, so you may cancel on the day of the appointment if you decide it is not yet time.

Scheduling in advance reserves time for you and your pet and avoids the stress of trying to arrange care at the last minute. Same-day availability is extremely rare, but if I’m available I will try to help you. The additional $200 fee applies only to accepted unscheduled after-hours or weekend visits.

What should I prepare before a housecall?

I work alone and do not accept aggressive dogs. Please tell me before scheduling if your pet has a history of biting or is difficult to handle. Nervous pets must be able to be handled safely, with a muzzle when appropriate. Outdoor or feral cats must already be caught and safely confined; I do not provide trapping or capture services. Please also mention parking or access issues that could affect the visit.

Do you provide emergency or urgent care?

No. Contact an emergency veterinary hospital immediately if your pet may be experiencing an emergency. Do not wait for a reply from this practice.

Are messages monitored after hours?

You may call or text at any time. Messages sent outside communication hours are not monitored and will be returned during the next communication period, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific. Messages are never monitored for emergencies.

Can you help with a pet over 100 pounds?

In-home euthanasia may be available. Aftercare transportation must be confirmed separately for pets over 100 pounds.
